Mr. Henry Mock is Vice President at the Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) and is Professor of the Practice (PoP) in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to this current role, he was the Laboratory Director and Vice President at WSP USA Inc (and Principal in Golder Associates Inc.). With his extensive experience in the laboratory environment (Geotechnical and Geosynthetics), managing full-time, part-time, and intern employees over the course of almost a four-decade career, as well as business development, industry involvement, and leadership capabilities, he brings extensive expertise to GSI and Georgia Tech. To be able to teach, share, and interact with the next generation of engineers in helping them prepare for the trials, tribulations, and successes of the profession he considers an honorable goal. He plans to serve successfully in the future growth, research, and development of the Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) that has relocated to Georgia Tech. His passion for laboratory testing began with his first job at Amoco Fabrics and Fibers performing chemical polymer testing used in multiple industries. This led to being recruited by Golder Associates, Inc. to create a Geosynthetic laboratory to support the solid waste industry for the protection of the environment. Under his leadership, the Golder Laboratory became one of the first accredited geosynthetic laboratories under the Geosynthetic Institute. He was given the freedom to expand outside of Golder’s internal business and provide laboratory services to other consulting firms, owners, and manufacturers, etc. He has been involved not only in the Solid Waste industry but the Mining industry (heap leach facilities), Power industry (coal combustion residuals), Water Resources industry (dams/reservoirs) and the Transportation and Infrastructure industry, working on hundreds of projects around the globe. He participates in international standards organizations such as ASTM, ISO, etc. He has held officer positions within ASTM and on the Board of Advisors to GSI. Henry has published several related articles and has given numerous presentations, listed below, bringing his enthusiasm towards growing geosynthetics to engineers both inside and outside of the industry.
