Shaivan Shivaprakash is a postdoctoral researcher at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Susan Burns. He also holds Master’s degrees in Environmental Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech. His research expertise centers on experimental investigations of natural and man-made geomaterials, with a particular focus on linking micro-scale processes and mechanisms to macro-scale behavior using advanced high-resolution material characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, and EDS). His work includes studies on microbial interactions, clogging phenomena, soil mineralogical effects, and ammonia by-product removal during microbially induced calcite precipitation, as well as investigations into the internal porosity and formation mechanisms of fly ash spheres and the influence of internal porosity on the performance of next-generation geosynthetics.
